Kea Garden, Cameron Highlands. 1N2D too long

I feel that in the interests of fairness I should write a blog post about our stay at Kea Gardens in the Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Honestly though I’d rather skip it. I hated it.

It was garish, consumerist, noisy and unpleasant.

Whilst I knew that the accommodation I’d booked was colourful and basic I hadn’t expected this and it was in such stark contrast to the rainforest accommodation we’d stayed in the previous 2 nights that it came as a bit of a shock. It was just 30 minutes up the road and yet it was a world away and then some.

The one pleasant experience we had there was the butterfly farm next door although even that felt a bit sad given that we’d seen these beautiful creatures in the wild the previous day and then here they were, flapping to get out of a hothouse and head for the sun and freedom.

I actually considered leaving this place before we’d even spent the night there and moving straight on to our next stop a couple of hours away. The boys made themselves busy creating a trailer for a horror film on my iPad called ‘Horror Hotel’ so in the interests of continuity, we stayed put and stuck it out!

The room smelt damp and the beds were the most uncomfortable we’ve come across. We left as soon as we could the next day.

I’ve heard good things about the Cameron Highlands being a beautiful area to visit but I’m afraid that this has put me off. There’s pretty much one road in and one road out and we drove it all in a loop. The ascent and descent were beautiful and our previous stay in the Rainforest Inn was amazing but I won’t be back to this area again in a hurry, its been completely spoilt.
